Art. Fabric. Chickens.
My focus for many years was painting. Along the way I learned to sew through my mom teaching me to quilt. I made a handful of quilts and eventually fell back into painting. My love of fabric never ended, it just sat in the back seat for a while.
After many years filled with moves to different states, a Masters degree in Painting, some teaching, and constantly learning new things with the goal of mastering each new undertaking, from woodworking to gold leaf, I found myself back in my home state, California. In the Spring of 2011, I got three little chicks, and my world completely changed.
I immersed myself in raising my little flock and became intertwined with every part of their world. My creative nature and love for my hens naturally grew into a desire to create them in fabric. It felt like the perfect outlet for my love and total fascination with these feathered beauties. I pulled from my life of learning and making and developed my own patterns for my fabric hens. I am constantly inspired by the beauty of their feathers when choosing fabrics. And inspired by their unique and individual personalities when working on the details for each of my creations.
I never thought that one day I would be raising chickens. Nor did I ever imagine I would be designing my own patterns to create a fabric flock. And I never would have guessed other chicken lovin' people would find me and ask to have their feathered friends' portraits created in fabric. It's crazy and I love it!
